Psalms 8:1 and 5:1-3
My Shepherd met me in His green pastures and laid me down in Nahum: The burden of Nineveh.
As I read chapter 3, I thought about how pleased Jonah would have been and what great friends these two could have been if they had not been about 120 years apart. Hmmm. God gave Nineveh the number of years He once gave the entire planet (Genesis 6:3). But then I thought, Jonah would certainly have learned the lesson he once refused to hear (Jonah 4:1-4, 11):
What about the cattle, Jonah? On the day the gourd fell on his head, Jonah would have rejoiced to hear Nahum’s prophecy concerning Nineveh (Nahum 3:5-7):
But I think Jonah, whose name means dove, would not now be disposed to say to God, “I told You so!” Though he might say it to Nineveh!
The Mind of the Spirit then drew the spirit of my mind into communion with Him in verse 12, where the Spirit spoke of the strongholds of Nineveh:
Nahum 3:12 All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
Along the still waters, I could not help but see much of America in Nahum’s description of Nineveh (Nahum 3:4, 13, 16-18).
Today, we see two Americas. And we saw them both on display Saturday, June 14, 2025. The No King Day protest/riots showcased the crowd whose hatred for America—“Under God” was expressed in rebellion, anarchy, hatred, and rage, trampling upon the American flag, which they spat upon, and burned, a fulfillment of David’s prophecy in Psalm 2 (see Acts 4:25), the heathen raging against the rule of Christ. Contrasted by the crowd who honors Christ as King, the “Party” that during the 2024 election, confessed Jesus Christ is King, celebrated the 250th year anniversary of America’s Army, showing love, respect for law and order, and appreciation for the favor God has shown to this nation. This is a stark contrast to the “Party” that denied that Jesus Christ is King during the 2024 Presidential election.
Nineveh responded to Jonah’s message very differently from how she did to Nahum’s prophecy. It remains to be seen whether America will fall or rise—she is in the balance! I prayed earnestly that Obama’s America will fully collapse, that the strongholds of evil will “be like the fig trees with the firstripe figs,” that “if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater” (Nahum 3:12). Let’s pray the spiritual strong holds of Satan’s fortifications against Christ will be shaken, for if the bands and cords of Christ are broken and cast off (Psalm 2:3), the physical strong holds of our defenses will fail.
In the valley, shadowed by the Cross, I knelt to pray. I went after the strongholds of the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12), in full armor, swinging the Sword of the Spirit against the lies of Satan and his children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:1-2). With the “weapons” of our warfare, I sought to pull down Satan’s strong holds (2 Corinthians 10:4), to shake the fig tree (a representation of Israel, by the way).
Jesus came to my side and strengthened me, and reminded me that the answer is to deny myself, take up my cross, and follow Him. He beat the Devil by the Cross, and when we take it up, Hell trembles.
At His table, He anointed my head with His oil and filled my cup with His grace. We enjoyed some fellowship, where we supped together (Revelation 3:20), then rose from the table to enter into the Harvest.
