Psalms 8:1, 16:2, 145:1-3

My Shepherd got to my prayer closet before me and waited there a while. I didn’t post BrainMassage® radio/podcast until 4 am; I rose later than usual but when I finally got into my prayer closet, He laid me down in Isaiah 65, and the Mind of the Spirit engaged the spirit of my mind in verse 8:

Isaiah 65:8 ¶ Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

When a land is condemned and God has decreed its destruction, He hesitates over some clusters saying, “Destroy it not.” The analogy addresses the question: why does God preserve a “cluster”? And the answer is because He finds “new wine … in the cluster.” In the verse, God is the one Who sees a “blessing” in the cluster; and identifies the cluster with His remnant.

Along the still waters, I thought about Jesus’ teaching regarding the old and new wine (Matthew 9:17; see Luke 5:39). I thought about Isaiah’s repeated prophecy that Messiah would come as a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 42:6; 49:6; 60:3; see Luke 2:32, and Matthew 4:16). What blessing, what “new wine” did the Father spy in the Gentile “clusters”? It’s “faith” that pleases Him (Hebrews 11:6). He spied sweet new wine in the Gentile cluster: To the Gentile Syrophoenician woman, He publicly effused acclamation: “O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour” (Matthew 15:28); of the noble Roman Centurion, He marveled: “When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Matthew 8:10).

In the darkened valley, this Gentile saw His light shine, and heard His voice: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

At the table, I thought about the “new wine” He used to represent His blood (Matthew 26:28), and rejoiced that He was pleased to preserve the cluster, for He saw the blessing in it, and is refreshed by His new wine (Isaiah 65:8; Hebrews 11:6) when a Jew or a Gentile, sinners all, puts his or her “faith in his blood” (Romans 3:25).

He anointed my head with His oil and filled my cup, as I lovingly poured my faith into His. Goodness and mercy attended us into the harvest.
