Psalm 8:1

My Shepherd met me in His green pastures and laid me down in Psalm 27. The Mind of the Spirit engaged the spirit of my mind in verse 8:

Psalms 27:8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

God said to David, “Seek ye my face.” The promised son of David, Jesus, said, “Seek, and ye shall find” (Matthew 7:7; Luke 11:9). He warned the unbelieving, “Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me” (John 7:34). Many will come to Him in the day He gathers His own to Himself, and say, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” (Matthew 7:22). He warned that He will reply: “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” (Matthew 7:23). I guess He meant it when He said, through Paul, “And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity” (2 Timothy 2:19b).

But the part of Psalm 27:8 that struck me was that David’s heart talked to God: “My heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek” (Psalm 27:8b). Our hearts talk!

Along the still waters, I reflected on this. What is my heart saying today? Be careful that your heart does not join your tongue, or be careful that it does.

The heart is deceitful, you know, and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). We don’t want our tongue to join our heart when deceit, bitterness, malice, and hatred fill it (Ephesians 4:30-31). That’s a good time to unhitch the tongue from the heart. Remember, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh (Matthew 12:34). When the heart is not responding to God’s call to seek His face, watch what comes off the tongue. This could be a time to “bite your tongue.”

But wait, James likened the tongue to the small helm that turns the great ships (James 3:4). Perhaps it’s a good idea to hitch the tongue to the bitter heart and force it to turn toward praise and rejoicing. It might be without proper feeling, at first, but with good intention, the tongue can turn the heart from bitterness to blessedness. I call it praise on purpose. Take hold of the helm and turn the heart to “seek His face.”

In the valley, worshipping in the shadow of His Cross, He taught me that the Cross is the place our GOD spread His healing wings (Malachi 4:2), the place where a sore heart finds healing. Here is where I “prepare” my heart to seek His face (2 Chronicles  12:14; 19:3; Ezra 7:10). The Spirit affirmed that here is where I obey His command: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). To keep is to maintain, protect, and preserve. The words of Jesus washed over my heart like the sound of many waters: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). My heart was fighting the currnets of troubles and resisting but I took the helm and directed praise and thanksgiving toward my God till the heart was turned toward His face. Hallelujah! The ship turned! I found His face!

At the table, He anointed my head with his “fresh” oil (Psalm 92:10) and filled my cup with grace sufficient to meet the sufficient evil of another day (2 Corinthians 12:9; Matthew 6:34). Goodness and mercy came to attend me as we walked together into His harest!

Praying for revival! 🙏
