Psalms 31:1-4
My Shepherd met me in His green pastures very early, upon the first day of the week, and He laid me down in Luke 24. Verses 1 and 10 got me to thinking:
Luke 24:1 ¶ Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
The word “others” got my attention. It is used to acknowledge the unnamed women who attended the procession to the tomb. Only Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James are named. There were other women present with these women of note. They were the “other” women.
Along the still waters, I thought about these women who ministered to our Lord during His earthly ministry and were honored to be among the first to learn of His resurrection. Some names are inscribed in the Bible, but the “others” name’s were not. However, all of their names are inscribed in another book: the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27).
I wondered if any of the “others” felt slighted. Perhaps they were excited to sit with their children or grandchildren years later and be able to say to them, I was one of the “others.”
Not many of us will be persons “of note” (Romans 16:7). But we all can be acknowledged as among the “others” who served faithfully, and witnessed the glorious works of God. Our names are noted by the Lamb of God in His “Book of Life.”
From the valley, I heard Jesus calling my name: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). I heard my name in “any man,” and determined am I to be among the “others” distinguished as among those who heeded His call.
At the table, He anointed my head with His oil and filled my cup. Goodness and mercy appeared, and followed me as I followed Him into His harvest.
Praying for revival! 🙏
