Psalm 8:1; add 31:1-4
My Shepherd met me in His green pastures, pondering the great truth of His awareness. He is fully 100% aware of every thing 100% of the time. Everything includes the minutest detail while comprehending it in the context of perfect awareness of the whole.
There are many verses that testify to this:
Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
Luke 12:6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 10:30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Psalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalms 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psalms 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
Proverbs 24:12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Zechariah 4:10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
Psalms 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
He sees and takes account of every hair, on every head, every sparrow, every creature, every detail encoded in our DNA, the heart and thoughts of every creature, every small thing, throughout the Earth, and all His creation, and records every deed in His books: and He does this throughout the observable universe estimated by man to be more than 95 billion light-years in diameter.*
Along the still waters, I reflected on God’s amazing attention to detail and interest in the “small things.” This can explain why God might seem to be focusing on an aspect of our conduct or spiritual growth that seems irrelevant or of minor importance. It explains things like seeing something in Gideon that no one else did, or in David, or in some other humble, unspectacular, “complete unknown.”
I realized that many of the minor annoyances that distract me and seem to hinder or interfere with my “important” work are actually God working on something in my life that is important to Him; therefore, not at all trivial or mere distractions. These are, instead, the very point of the moment. We might call them trials, even tribulations, and they are, but they are important training moments, preparation for greater usefulness.
The Spirit brought to my mind:
Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
Romans 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
And,
James 1:2 ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
I never thought of temptations or tribulations as including the minor irritations, frustrations, and seemingly unnecessary distractions and impediments to productivity that I encounter in the course of almost any day. The little things matter to God, and my reactions to these things are important to Him. They reveal something that matters to Him. Small things matter to our GOD. What matters to Him must not be despised, disregarded, or ignored. The little battles are exercises for larger ones. A new insight emerged from an old and familiar verse:
Jeremiah 12:5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
In the valley, as the Spirit spoke Jesus’ call to discipleship, I realized how significantly the “little things” expose areas where self-denial is tested, and a deeper experience of surrender is needed. Now that I have seen it, I cannot unsee it. I heard His call to self-denial on a level never before experienced: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
At the table, Jesus spoke to me of His sufferings on the Cross and of the enormous pressure He had endured in the Garden earlier. The assault there, in that garden, prepared HIm for the cross that followed. Read Matthew, Mark, and Luke’s accounts and compare the spiritual agony He endured in Gethsemane to the peace that prevailed after His full surrender to the Cross (Matthew 26:36-45; Mark 14:32-41; Luke 22:39-46). I bowed my head, ashamed of how easily I am provoked by little things. He anointed my head with His oil and filled my cup with His grace. Goodness and mercy followed as we went into the harvest together.
Praying for revival! 🙏

[*These estimates are premised on the average speed of light as we can now measure it, but the amount of guesswork present in these estimates is significant. Much of it depends on whether the speed of light has been constant from Creation until now, and that likelihood is suspect. The fact that, in the account of creation, Light was created before the stars, moon, and sun suggests that their light was present instantaneously throughout God’s Creation even before He placed the instruments of its dispersal into place. It’s as if He created physical light first, then created the instrumentality by which it is transmitted. Like electricity, which exists in the physical universe independent of the media that conducts it.]
