Psalm 16:2, “O  my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord.”

My Shepherd met me in His green pastures, leisurely grazing here and there, and feeling particularly small and weak. He called me over to consider the message He has for us tonight, and as I prayed for His power to manifest, and His mind and heart to be revealed, I was reminded that Christ makes much of a little. Who could suppose Christ Jesus would feed five thousand with five loaves? The Spirit pointed out the pride of thinking oneself too small to be of use to the King: “Remember the five loaves of the five thousand” (Matthew 1:9).

The best of seven churches had but a “little strength,” yet the door no man could shut was opened by Christ to Philadelphia (Revelation 3:8). And alas, this great door that no man can shut was opened by Christ to this church: “For [because] thou,” said He, “hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name” (Revelation 3:8).

Along the still waters, I thought about the little things God uses. He used the little sparrow to teach us the greatest lesson on trust: “Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? (Luke 12:6; consider Psalms 84:3 and 102:7).

David used a little stone to fell a mountain of a man (1 Samuel 17).

Jesus told us that a little faith can scatter devils and move mountains and trees: “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you” (Matthew 17:20).

Jesus taught us concerning the fourth kingdom and this “gospel of the kingdom” that we preach. When the smallest “mustard seed” of faith is planted in this world, it grows to be the greatest of all herbs (Mark 4:30-32):

“And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.”

A great door was opened to the faithful church with “little strength,” who with micro-faith planted in the earth grew into the largest of this world’s “Faiths.” Although the “birds” (Devils) find “shelter” in and under its “branches,” it stands greatest among the herbs!

Imagine, if one mustard-seed-sized-faith can move a mountain and a tree, what can a full-grown mature mustard plant producing multiple thousands of such seeds achieve on this earth? The world will be under the dominion of Christ’s Kingdom in the world that now is, and in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:21; see 12-21; see Revelation 1:5; Matthew 28:18).

A church with “little strength” can be used by Christ Jesus to increase the kingdom of Christ through preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom to all the world, as a witness to every nation (Matthew 24:14).

In the valley, kneeling in the shadow of His Cross, I confessed my little strength and faith, but rejoiced in the love of God Who never forgets the little sparrow, and Who can feed five thousand with five loaves, and moves aside obstacles to the Gospel though they be mighty mountains, or deeply rooted trees with faithful men of “little faith.”

He said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

At the table, He anointed my head with His oil and stirred his sufficient grace into my overflowing cup. Goodness and mercy ran to catch up as we entered the harvest.
