Psalms 8:1, 31:1-4, 16:2
My Shepherd met me in His green pastures and laid me down in Isaiah. The Mind of the Spirit engaged the spirit of my mind at 61:11:
Isaiah 61:11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
The earth “bringeth forth” and the “garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth” (Isaiah 6:1). (Italics added to draw attention to these words.)
Bringeth: Translates תּוֹצִ֣יא (Toh-Tsee’, a verb indicating an action that causes something to happen). The cause producing the action, or event, is the earth. The product of the action is the “bud” (that which sprouts from a seed).
Similarly, the garden causes the seed to sprout.
The analogy assumes a sower, someone, or some agency, by which the seed is planted in the earth, or in a garden created by man of the earth.
GOD created the earth and invested in it the power to cause the effect (Genesis 1:1, 9-13). He created the man from the earth, and made him a tiller of the ground (Genesis 1:26-27; 3:17-19; see 4:2). Natural agency is active in sowing seed in the earth (e.g., the squirrel gathers acorns and buries them for food, forgets where they are buried, and they grow into a tree). When it comes to a garden, someone has intentionally set aside a space, cultivated it, and planted seeds. God created the first garden; the man He created created them thereafter. Nevertheless, it is the energy the Creator invested in His creation that generates the produce.
Along the still waters, I pondered the relationship between sowing and reaping to the bringing forth of righteousness. GOD said that in the same way that the earth, and a garden in the earth, brings forth produce from the seed sown in it, He would cause righteousness and praise to spring forth “before the nations.” God will generate the fruit of the seed that is planted in Him to bring forth the fruit of righteousness and praise.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with GOD and the Word was God (John 1:1). This Word is the “incorruptible seed” (1 Peter 1:23). It was planted in the earthy vessel of Adam’s race (John 1:14), but was not corrupted in His flesh. He was ever sanctified by the Spirit of holiness, until, according to the Spirit of holiness, He was declared to be the Son of God with power, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (Romans 1:3-4).
It is by the words of the Word abiding in us that we bring forth His fruit of righteousness and praise (John 15:1-12, verse 7 being the key verse supporting this thought). If we abide in the incorruptible seed (the WORD of God) and His words abide in us, God will show forth to “all the nations” (the Goyeem – Gentiles) the righteousness and praise of our GOD. This God will do to save those in Israel who will see it and be jealous (Romans 11:11), and drawn by His Spirit to come alongside these Gentiles and see the righteousness and praise of GOD, and be warmed in affection to their salvation (Romans 11:11-14). Those who remain contrary to Christ, their Messiah, and ours, will be enraged in their jealousy, securing their damnation. Paul said he hoped to “save some” (Romans 11:14).
If we sow to the flesh, of the flesh we will reap corruption. But if we sow to the Spirit, we reap fruit that will go with us into life everlasting:
Galatians 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Only death comes of what we sow to this flesh. Works of corruption and destruction grow in such a life: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like” (Galatians 5:19-21). These things torment us under the curse of the Law. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Christ Jesus manifests in our mortal flesh when we “sow to the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 4:11).
What is sown in the earth is what springs up from it. Spiritually, we sow to the Spirit, or to the flesh.
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
The Spirit only receives seed compatible with that “soil.” Likewise, the flesh can only receive seed compatible with its nature. Lust will not grow in the Spirit. And Love will not grow in the soil of flesh.
In the valley, shadowed by His Cross, as Love Himself drew near me, and I noted the wounds in His feet as I knelt before Him, He said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
At the table, I noted the wounds in His hands as He poured His oil upon my head, and when He took my cup, and filled it to overflowing with His grace sufficient against the evils of the day (Psalm 23:5; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Matthew 6:34).
He appointed us to be tillers of this earthen vessel, but we can plant nothing in the flesh that will bring forth anything that will please Him. We must “sow to the Spirit,” and thereby provide for Christ to manifest to the world through this mortal flesh.
Praying for revival! 🙏
