I’ll use my old standbys: Psalms 8:1 and 16:2
My Shepherd, Jesus Christ the Lord, met me in His green pastures and laid me down in Zechariah 8, especially verses 20-23, describing the prayer meeting God said He would attend:
Zechariah 8:20 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:
Zechariah 8:21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.
Zechariah 8:22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.
Zechariah 8:23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
The Mind of the Spirit stirred the spirit of my mind with a clause that appears to be randomly tagged onto the end of verse 21: ”I will go also.” It surprised me, and for a brief moment, I wondered if Zechariah was telling us he would attend. The passage, beginning at verse 18 with “The word of the LORD of hosts came unto me,” reinforced in verse 20 of the passage, “Thus saith the LORD of hosts,” makes it clear it is Yaho-Vah’ Who is speaking: God said He would also attend this prayer meeting.
“I will go also,” being, as it is, set off by a colon signifies that the concluding clause emphasizes the significance of this prayer meeting, underscores it, amplifies it. GOD said the people of many cities would come together, saying, “Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.” God said, “I will go also.”
Along the still waters, I pondered many things: In c780 BC, Amos prophesied God’s wrath and intention to punish the house of Israel, saying “I will not pass by them any more” (Amos 8:1-2), and in c520 BC (~260 years later), after Judah also was punished, He spoke through Zechariah: “And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not: So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not” (Zechariah 8:13-15). God said this prayer meeting of “people” (an assembly) from among the “strong nations” (goyeem-Gentiles: Zechariah 8:22; see 1 Peter 2:10). In those days, ten men of the nations (Gentiles) “shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you” (Zechariah 8:23).
A spirit of payer and supplication will come upon the Gentiles during the time that the Gentile nations are strong, and their prayers will be heard when the turn to the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel).
In the valley, shadowed by His Cross, I knelt to pray for the Gentile rulers and nations, that God would be pleased to pour out His Spirit of grace and supplication, drawing the churches together in prayer for the peace of Jerusalem.
My Shepherd spoke, and His voice was as the sound of many waters (peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues—Revelation 17:15), and He said: “If any many will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
He met me at His table with His holy oil in His hand to anoint my head. He took my cup, filled it, then added His grace till it overflowed. Goodness and mercy followed as I followed Him into His harvest.
Praying for revival! 🙏
