THE KISS! 20251013

It’s a “will worship” morning (Colossians 2:23). I’ll use Psalm 123:1-4 for Temple worship today.

My Shepherd met me foraging here and there in His green pastures. I kept looking up to heaven, asking, Do you have something you want to say to me this morning? It turned out He had much to say. Most of it is personal and would not edify you. But after a while, I read Psalm 110:1 and saw a connection with Psalm 2 that I had not noticed or thought about before.

Psalms 110:1 ¶ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Psalms 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Psalms 110:5 ¶ The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

Psals 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Along the still waters, I pondered these Psalms.

Jesus came into the world as our High Priest to make atonement for our sins. When He completed this work,  He took His place at the right hand of the “majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:3). His Spirit has baptized us into Christ (Galatians 3:27). The life (zoe) of our soul is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3); we are seated together with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). He made us priests in the order of Christ (Revelation 1:6; 1 Peter 2:5).

Jesus waits upon His Father’s throne a “priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek” (Psalm 110:4). He continuously makes intercession for us: “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us” (Romans 8:34; see also Romans 8:26-27 and 1 John 2:1-2). He is our High Priest.

Upon His throne, He waits? What does He wait for? “The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool” (Psalm 110:1). This is completed in two phases. First, the Gospel of the Kingdom is preached, inviting whosoever will to confess with their mouth the LORD Jesus, believe He is risen from the dead, and by faith call upon His name to be saved (Romans 10:9-13). Repentance toward God and faith toward the LORD Jesus Christ are God’s prescribed terms of surrender to Jesus. The second phase is the return of Christ to subdue the earth: “The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath” (Psalm 110:5). This is the dreadful “Day of the Lord” that begins with His return and concludes with the removal of this present heavens and earth, and creation of the new (Revelation 20-21).

Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the promised King (Revelation 1:5). At this time, “The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies” (Psalms 110:2). Jesus will rule with His rod of iron (Revelation 2:27; 12:5; 19:15). We will rule and reign with Him; He has made us kings (Revelation 1:6; 2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 20:6).

During this time, while Jesus rests upon the right hand of the Majesty on High, the Father gives counsel to the kings of Earth: “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him” (Psalms 2:12).

I was intrigued by a nuance of the phrase “Kiss the Son.” The word translated Kiss  נַשְּׁקוּ (naw-shak’) is from a word that means to “catch fire.” It refers to a gesture of affection, a touch, that creates a connection (See Strong’s H5401). However, it is used to speak of equipping with arms, that is, weapons. God’s counsel to the raging Heathen is to lay down their arms, to yield them to God’s Son. The “kiss” is surrender, yielding to Him every weapon of resistance, and turning all our weapons to His use. Then shall no weapon formed against us prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

In the valley, shadowed by His Cross, where our King laid down His life, and took His place on the right hand of His Father to intercede for us, He called to me, saying I must walk the path He walked: To make myself of no reputation, to take on the form of a servant to all, to be humbled to the death of the Cross, as He was (Philippians 2:5-10): “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

At the table, He anointed my head with His oil and filled my cup with His grace. Goodness and mercy attended me as we walked together into His harvest.

Praying for revival! 🙏
